MEET OUR COUNSELORS

JOHN S. KILGO, III, M.S., L.P.C.

​John Kilgo is a licensed professional counselor and founder of Olive Tree Counseling & Consultation. John grew up in the Upstate of South Carolina. After graduating from Wofford College with a B.A. in Religion, JOHN WORKED AS A BANKER, WHERE HE FOUND HIS CALLING TO HELP PEOPLE IN THE MIDST OF CRISIS. WHETHER HELPING CLIENTS THROUGH A DIFFICULT FINANCIAL SITUATION, A LOST SPOUSE, OR A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP, HE WAS ABLE TO HELP BEAR PEOPLE'S BURDENS IN THE MIDST OF TRIALS.  These experiences led john to pursue counseling as a career. he earned his Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University.

john started working with greenville mental health center in 2013. there, john served the community as he worked with adults to cope with difficult life situations and mental illness. he helped his CLIENTS find acceptance through a partnership mentality and value through emphasizing their strengths. he worked with a variety of diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, personality disorders, and a variety of mental health disorders.

while his passion was to work with couples to strengthen marriages, these opportunities were few in this setting. this desire led john to serve his church in a new marriage ministry. he and his wife, maury, led several couples through a marriage curriculum. additionally, john works one-on-one with couples in intensive marriage training.
